Photomontaging
Just finished some paintings and sketches of photomontages I made this week. I’ve done a lot of fast charcoal sketches of the scenes, some in pencil and a few in paint and ink. I am very happy with the outcomes because they demonstrate what I wanted them to; the similarities between the places I’ve visited recently and by combining them, you can create a new and interesting landscapes...

Aberdeen
So went up to Aberdeen on the train with my lovely lovely mum today :) 7.30 felt like 4 in the morning…I never want to be up that side of 9am again! Had a tour of the whole campus; the different buildings, student halls and libraries were all amazing. After a couple hours I had an appointment with the head of History of Art, Dr. Bryzgel to discuss the course. I don’t think...

John Stezaker
Just been looking at Stezaker’s work to inspire my idea of photomontaging and collaging landscapes. Although Stezaker is famous for his portraits, he often combines a portrait with a landscape to demonstrate part of the human body. For example here, as part of his Mask Series, Stezaker combines old photographs with postcards of mostly British landmarks to create a completely unique...

Today!
So spent about 2 hours struggling with technology to print off all my photos from the holidays. Think I used up the art departments ink allowance…  I organised all the photos and put some up on the wall. I was ripping up a photo from the Lake District and one from California and rearranging the pieces into a new landscape. The scale and proportions of the photos were similar making it easy...

So as part of my project, based around the theme of “Western American Landscapes” I’ve been looking at loads of aspects that interest me and spark ideas. In particular: Native American Tribes and their communities, the deserts of Utah, the mojave desert in California and “rock formations”. I have gathered my own visual information from Western America, Edinburgh, The...

fyeaheasterneurope: Police in Serbia have recovered a painting by the French artist Paul Cezanne that was stolen at gunpoint from a Swiss museum four years ago, officials said on Thursday.
